Formerly "A Maine Man Abroad" Bob and Carolyn returned to the US in August of 2010. They now live in Texas where, as we all know, "is like a whole different country".
Mr. Shand is a retired Guidance Counselor, Which if you knew him in High School will come as a great surprise. Mr. Shand has centered his life around serving others as a counselor, nurse, and Corpsman in Viet Nam. He now is an Ordained Minister and a Certified Chaplain in service to God. He married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn, in 1970 and they are still together. They moved to Mexico in 2007 after Carolyn suffered a stroke and Bob took early retirement to care for her. Rev. Bob and Carolyn returned to the States in August 2010 and live in Victoria, Texas. Mr. Shand writes, mostly for his own enjoyment. This blog is a way to get his writings out of his head and into the world.
Probably the most important thing I have ever done
In 1969 I was sent to Viet Nam as a combat corpsman with the US Marines. Never before and not since, have I ever been so alive and so proud as during those days in the mud and sand of I-Corps with "H" 2/1 and then 1st Med Batt.
